Kelsta delivers her own hard dance style that draws on elements of full percussive techno, heavy rolling bass lines and a fierce blend of raw, driving sounds. Expressing herself through her production and DJing, Kelsta has helped in the push to put Australia on the map as an integral player in the world of hard dance. A disciplined approach to her DJing shines through in every set. Tight mixing, a cutting edge track selection that is not bound by genre and a unique passionate presence accompanies her behind the decks. On the production front Kelsta has achieved success beyond her years encompassing an exciting technical and creative capacity. As a major player in Australia’s hard dance scene, she has played a key role in getting local talent exposed to the global audience. Kelsta by no means takes her position lightly, giving 100% at every opportunity and dedicating herself to her music that is her life.

Kelly Kokot began her DJing career in 2001 under the guise Kelsta, at a time when a predominantly male dominated Melbourne scene was rapidly expanding and redefining itself by genre. Wanting to take her passion for music to the next level, a determined Kelsta invested in her own studio. With her strongest influence at the time being Nick Sentience and the local “Hard Kandy Kollective”, Kelsta immediately started building her own distinct sound. In the short span of 3 months her dedication and commitment payed off as she secured her first gig. From there the events quickly seeped into Kelsta’s growing life as a DJ securing regular spots at Hard Kandy and playing as a guest at Advent*Jah (VIC & QLD) festivals, Two Tribes, Frantic, Bubble and a rotational residency at @mosphere.

Three years later Kelsta now holds residencies at hard dance institutions Hard Kandy, Frantic and BPM, whilst maintaining regular guest spots all over Melbourne, interstate and overseas. Kelsta also appears as a regular guest at some of Melbourne’s most respected techno nights. Notable appearances to date include playing TwoTribes (voted Australia’s number one Dance Music Festival 3 years running by DMA), Belfast, Sunshine People, God’s Kitchen, Fevah Tour, headlining Decadance (NZ), touring with Guyver in 2003, Brisk (Stimulant DJ’s) in 2004 and playing alongside Nick Sentience as well as K90 at the Hard Dance Nation Tour. Kelsta has also played along side and received acclaim from many of the world’s leading DJ’s.

As Kelsta’s love of music grew so too did her recognition. Seeking an avenue to further express her passion and creativity, Kelsta explored opportunities within the realms of production. Drawing inspiration from the artists she admires most such as Nick Sentience, BK, Paul Glazby, and Brisk, she committed herself to developing a unique and well-rounded style that allowed her to communicate her own flavour of hard dance. With her first track “Aspirations” (mastered by James Lawson), Kelsta received great praise amongst her peers and punters alike. Her latest tune, “The Final Element” has been causing stirs on dance floors world wide, having being already charted by some of the world’s top DJ’s.

Knowing her production was good enough to be heard by the masses and wanting to put the Australian hard dance scene on the map, Kelsta teamed up with fellow Melbourne hard dance leader Ben Kakoschke. With a unified drive to push the boundaries and develop a means for Australian producers to have their music heard, the label sixpointsix was born.

DJ Kelsta has secured her position as one of the leaders of hard dance in the Australian scene. Building her success around her professional attitude and passion for her work, Kelsta has established herself as an exciting and innovative DJ and producer with local and international acclaim. Known for a style of hard dance not genre bound, blending elements of hard house, hard trance, techno and UK beats, she has definitely taken the scene by storm and has a busy schedule that pays a tribute to her skill. In a highly competitive scene, Kelsta has overcome numerous boundaries to assert herself as arguably Australia’s number one female hard dance DJ.
