Since 2001,.Boydex has risen through the ranks and firmly cemented
his position as one of the fresh faces of the Melbourne breaks
scene. Boydie gained his appreciation for music through his love
of dancing and the powerful effect that the music had on him.
Not getting caught up with genre specifics, Boydex immersed himself
in the pure sounds that he was moved by. His first gig was at
“Break Free”, an outdoor breaks party that was held
at a time when breaks were starting to influence the Melbourne
scene more heavily. It wasn’t long before Boydie was grabbing
the attention of punters, through his ability to get crowds jumping
every time he stepped up to the decks. His passion was soon conveyed
through his music and still is today, making him a highly respected
DJ amongst his peers.
Boydex presents a unique sound which captures the attention of
crowds in a varying range of clubs, from trance fanatics to techno
enthusiasts. Since the first time he appeared as a DJ, he has
played amongst some of his biggest influences and Australia’s
best, including Phil K, NuBreed, Ransom & Brewster B. His
residencies have included Scatterfunk, Hard Kandy (Side Trax),
Trauma, Elevation and @mosphere, all of which have been or still
are largely influential clubs in the Melbourne dance scene. Boydex
has also appeared at the Advent*jah Festivals (2003-2004), Rainbow
Serpent 2004, Hardware (Jeff Mills, TransAtlantic) 2004, Sunshine
People 2004/2005, Utopia and 4th Dimension @ QBH, Daybreak, Breakdown
(Club UK), just to name a few.
A recent move into
production has enabled Boydex to move beyond the traditional creative
boundaries of DJing. Alongside long time friend Chris G, the pair
has combined their creative talents to form DSOL. Their ambition
is to create a unique sound that challenges the imaginations of
their audience as well as their own. The progression from DJ to
producer has added an extra element to his musical appreciation
and knowledge, one which is already turning heads amongst the
more established producers in Melbourne. His aspirations are equal
to his genuine love and respect for music in general, certainly
making him an artist to watch closely in the future.
